How quickly is Cash Back credited to my account?

Most Cash Back rewards are credited within 48 hours. Some stores, however, cannot confirm your purchase until the return period has elapsed and may take up to thirty days to confirm your Cash Back.

Still wondering about a purchase made more than 30 days ago that isn't showing in your account summary? Contact Member Services.

When do I get my Cash Back payment?

Every 3 months, we send you a Cash Back payment for purchases posted during the previous quarter based on the schedule below. But if you've earned less than $5.01 Cash Back, we'll carry over your money to the next cheque. Bonus Rewards do not count toward the $5.01 minimum. The term "Bonus Rewards" includes monies earned as a Sign-up Reward or Refer-A-Friend Bonus.

Are all the stores on Rakuten Canada actually Canadian?

No. Some of our merchant partners are Canadian, some are American, and some others are based elsewhere around the globe. Our mission is to provide Canadians with the very best selection of high quality, online stores who ship to Canada. So, regardless of where a merchant's headquarters are located, if they ship to Canada and we think you'll love them, we've included them in our network.

To make shopping online easier, we've included information on each store page on Rakuten that tells you what currency the store uses, where they ship to, and whether they charge duty at the border or not.

A note re. shipping to the USA:

We know you love to shop, and sometimes you'll do just about anything to get something that isn't available in Canada.
To keep all those cross-border shoppers happy, and ensure you get the best Cash Back deals we've got, we included some of the very best online retailers who ship ONLY to the USA on Rakuten Canada. For clarity, we've labelled those merchants as shipping only to the US on each of the store landing pages.

Is my Rakuten Canada account the same as my Rakuten.com account?

No. If you already have an Rakuten.com account, you can use the same email and password on Rakuten.ca, but they are in fact, two separate accounts on two separate sites. You can certainly have an account on each site if you like. Your Rakuten.com account activities will pay you Cash Back in US dollars, and Rakuten.ca will pay you Cash Back in Canadian dollars. The Cash Back amounts cannot be combined.

Do the merchants on Rakuten Canada charge duty when shipping to Canada?

When shipping to Canada, the duty charged varies by each merchant on Rakuten. It is dependent upon their own policies, usually found in the shipping section of each merchant's site. However, Rakuten Canada makes this process easier for you by listing how duty is charged for each separate merchant on our store pages at Rakuten Canada. There are three different methods of charging duty by the merchants featured on Rakuten Canada.

. The first is a merchant that does not charge duty. This category would include all Canadian merchants, shipping from within Canada.

. The second method is when a merchant includes all the duty and taxes in their online total for you right at checkout. In this case merchants hire a broker to negotiate the duty charges in advance so there are no surprises for you when you receive your package.

. The third method is when duty is charged at the time of border processing. This means that merchants do not take responsibility for including duty in your total, leaving customs to calculate duty, charged to you at the time of package delivery.

My Cash Back and/or order information appears differently in My Rakuten Account than it did at checkout.

If you shop on a US store through Rakuten.ca, exchange rate fluctuations come into effect between the USD and CAD. As a result of this you may receive less (or more!) Cash Back than you had expected in your Rakuten Account. If this happens to you, please let member services know and we’ll make it right. While we can't control fluctuating exchange rates, we do have good news. We are working on a solution that will match the amounts more accurately and automagically. Stay tuned! We hope to have it ready for you soon.

How is my Cash Back calculated when purchases are made in different currencies?

At Rakuten Canada, we understand part of online shopping includes stores across borders, and in different currencies. We also understand that conversion rates can be tricky when it comes to getting your hard earned Cash Back.
As of July 9th, 2015 we’ve implemented better currency handling for all orders placed through Rakuten.ca. Here are some important things to note;
  • All Cash Back amounts are listed and paid to you in $CAD.
  • For stores where you are paying with Canadian currency, your order and Cash Back will be displayed and paid in $CAD
  • For stores where you are paying with US currency, we use the currency conversion rate from your date of purchase to calculate your Cash Back in $CAD. Click here to find out more about daily exchange rates.
